Lucie Filteau, MD, FRCPC
BIO:

Dr. Lucie Filteau started her journey in healthcare as an orderly 37 years ago. She then trained as a Respiratory Therapist and worked in the Neonatal/Pediatric ICU’s at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. She kept up her RT practice while working her way through a BSc in Neuroscience and then medical school at McMaster University. This was followed by an anesthesia residency at the University of Ottawa.

She has been working as an anesthesiologist at The Ottawa Hospital for the past 21 years. She completed further training in Healthcare Safety and Quality Improvement and, in addition to investigating adverse events, has led multidisciplinary groups in her hospital for change management initiatives. She also created and delivers the Quality and Patient Safety (QPS) curriculum for the Ottawa Anesthesia residency program.

On a national level, Dr Filteau is the past Chair of the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society  (CAS) Quality Patient Safety Committee and past member of the CAS Standards Committee. She has also served as a Royal College examiner and a Quality and Safety Educational Consultant to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She is currently serving as the President of the CAS.

Over the past 8 years, Lucie has become an avid LEGO builder. She exhibits her original, award-winning creations at LEGO events internationally. She has also used this skill in a fundraising capacity, selling an anesthesia machine replica that has raised more than $ 12,000 for CAS Foundations that fund anesthesia research and international outreach.
