WSSA Board and Delegates Descriptions

The WSSA Board of Directors is made up of elected officers, delegates to the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), and State District Directors. Together, they provide leadership and guidance to support anesthesiologists across Washington State and advance the mission of WSSA. Except for the officers, all Board members serve three-year, re-electable terms.

Officers (1-year term)

Our officers include the President, Past President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. They oversee the day-to-day operations of WSSA, ensure the organization runs smoothly, and uphold the goals and values of the Society. The President and Vice President are elected annually by the members. The Secretary and Treasurer are appointed annually by the Board from current Board members.

Delegates to the ASA (Delegates 3-year term, Alternates 1-year term)

Every component society of ASA elects a District Director and Alternate District Director to serve on the ASA Board of Directors. These positions are elected by the WSSA members. The District Director attends all ASA Board meetings, and the Alternate District Director participates when the Director is unavailable.

The ASA House of Delegates (HOD) is the primary representative, legislative and policy-setting body of ASA. Each component society is allotted delegates based on the number of Active Members in the society. WSSA currently is allotted 10 voting delegates in the HOD in addition to the District Director. The HOD meets once annually, during the ASA Annual Meeting in October.

WSSA delegates represent our members at the ASA House of Delegates each year. They review, discuss, and vote on recommendations from ASA reference committees and the ASA Board.

State District Directors (3-year term)

Our State District Directors serve on the WSSA Board and represent anesthesiologists from different regions throughout Washington. They provide feedback, share local perspectives, and help ensure that the needs and voices of members from every district are heard and supported.

The District 1 State Director represents anesthesiologists in the King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties.

The District 2 State Director represents anesthesiologists in the San Juan, Skagit, Whatcom, Clallam, Jefferson, Mason, Kitsap, Thurston, Grays Harbor, Pacific, Lewis, Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, Clark, and Skamania counties.

The District 3 State Director represents anesthesiologists in the Okanogan, Chelan, Douglas, Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Lincoln, Kittitas, Grant, Adams, Yakima, Benton, Whitman, Garfield, Asotin, Columbia, Walla Walla, and Klickitat counties.

Other Board Positions

WSSA also sends a delegate to the Washington State Medical Association (WSMA). The annual President of the Resident Section also sits on the WSSA Board.
