A discussion of recently published and popularized fascial plane and peripheral nerve blocks.  

Learning Objectives:  

After completion of this lecture, participants will be able to: 1.) Understand indications associated with the discussed fascial plane and peripheral nerve blocks; 2.) Explain the benefits and limitations associated with the discussed fascial plane and peripheral nerve blocks; 3.) Identify alternative analgesic options for the treatment of perioperative pain.


About Lauren Steffel, MD

Lauren Steffel is a regional anesthesiologist and director of the Acute Pain Service at the Puget Sound Veterans Affairs Hospital. She directs the VA regional rotation for University of Washington anesthesiology residents, which is the highest-rated resident rotation within the department, and won VA anesthesia teacher of the year in 2019. She also teaches regional anesthesia workshops and lectures held by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA). Lauren completed medical school at Harvard Medical School, residency at Stanford University Medical Center, fellowship at Virginia Mason Medical Center, and was awarded the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine resident of the year award in 2016.
